Buying a home is the single largest purchase most people make in their lifetimes. It is important to have a thorough inspection performed by a competent, Licensed Home Inspector. At SHI we take this responsibility very seriously, while still be being personal and real.
During all of our inspections we verbally report our findings to our clients. We also document these deficiencies with pictures. Within 24 hours of completion of the inspection we email our clients their professional Home Inspection Report. Our Report contains all of the findings, including pictures and recommendations to correct any deficiencies.
After digesting the Report, the clients typically discuss the report and deficiencies with their real estate professional (Buyers Agent), to determine the best path to address these issues. Buyers have several options: 1. Take the house as it is, 2. Ask sellers to make some repairs, 3. Ask for a reduction in price or sellers concession, or 4. Exercise their right to terminate their Offer to Purchase based on Home Inspection findings.
Our job is not to tell you to buy or walk, but to open your eyes and show you the present condition of the property, so you can make an informed purchase decision. The town of Easton in Bristol County, Massachusetts, with a population close to 25,000, is known as “Shovel Town.” That’s because back in 1803 the “Ames” shovel company was established there.
Most shovels you see now in places like Home Depot were most likely created by this local family. The town is also home to the nation’s only shovel museum.
Inside a back room of the old library in Stonehill College is the home to about 800 shovels.

Prior to my career in home inspections, I studied Mechanical Systems under ASE Master Technician Sam Matta for 5 years,. I graduated at the top of my class from American Home Inspection Training course, went on to pass the National Home Inspectors Exam, and became a licensed Associate Home Inspector all within the same year. Ryan Colby
Licensed Home Inspector
Ryan has about 2 years of experience inspecting homes and has completed roughly 750 inspections. He regularly worked 6-7 days a week and off-hours to help facilitate the company’s growth. Ryan has a background in both construction and service industries that allows him to understand the multiple facets required of a professional home inspector. Ryan is originally from the Worcester area but moved to the Tampa area. After 5 years he felt it was time to come home to the New England area. Ryan is currently in Raynham, and I am looking forward to building a successful inspection career. Ryan began inspecting homes in the Tampa Bay area, becoming a Certified Professional Inspector with InterNACHI. After several years in Florida, he decided to move home to continue inspecting in Massachusetts. Mike’s former career background is in beverage sales where he developed strong people and communication skills over the past 8 years. In 2021 he completed the home inspector training education requirement and went on to pass the National Home Inspector Exam. I am the proud owner of Shoveltown Home Inspections as well as a Licensed Home Inspector, Construction Supervisor, Real Estate Salesperson and Vocational Carpentry Teacher. My 30 plus years of residential and commercial construction and real estate lay the foundation for all of my inspections. My lifelong employment history is focused around building construction. With this background I perform each inspection as if I were buying the property myself.Buyers are often star struck by the beautiful kitchen or living areas of the home and put little thought into the condition of the structure and systems of the home. Marina is from Easton, MA, she graduated from Oliver Ames in 2014 and from Bridgewater State with a Bachelor’s Degree in 2020. She is the office administrator for Shoveltown Home Inspections. She handles answering phone calls, emails, booking inspections, and marketing.
